East Riddlesden Hall - Autumn Bride

East Riddlesden Hall is one of my favourite Yorkshire wedding venues and it has so much potential for wedding photography

I can’t believe I haven’t shared this yet, but it does seem fitting as we approach the tail end of autumn. At least once a year, I like to style a shoot. It’s a great opportunity to play around with different approaches, be creative, switch up my style a little. As a documentary wedding photographer, I don’t often get to play around with posing a bride. Here’s an autumnal style shoot I headed at the picturesque National Trust site of East Riddlesden Hall.

Location - I love the rustic Airedale barns and the Great Barn at East Riddlesden Hall and my vision was to shoot using minimal lighting in there. But of course East Riddlesden has so much to offer, I couldn’t keep the shoot to the barn only. The gardens are so pretty and the remains of the 17th-century manor house have always been of interest to me. It’s so rich in history and makes the perfect backdrop.

style - I am a wedding documentary photographer, so I usually use what light is available to me to capture the story as it unfold. The idea for this shoot was to set up lighting to create a moody, slightly dramatic feel in the barn. I like the heavy use of shadows and highlights.

Colour scheme - As I pre-planted the shoot to take place in a dark area, I wanted the flowers to be quite vibrant. Angela from Flora dance did an amazing job of putting an autumnal colour scheme together. The floral crown is so delicately beautiful.

Bridal Hair and Make-Up Chloe based in Skipton and Carolyn based in Ilkley, styled the hair and make-up.
