Top tips for a child friendly wedding

Children can bring real joy to a wedding, but how do you plan for a child friendly wedding? Including your own kids can be difficult enough without wondering how to provide entertainment for your guest’s children. You may be wondering if you should even have children at your wedding. So here’s some handy tips and things to considered for a kid friendly wedding .

Walking down the aisle

Young children can become overwhelmed when it’s their turn to walk down the aisle. Having them practice at the rehearsal is a good idea or have them walk holding a bridesmaids hand for support.

The Wedding Ceremony

Expect them to make some noise. Hopefully parents will sit near the back in case they need to nip outside with their kids. The ceremony will be (do I dare say it) boring for a child and it’s a lot to ask them to sit still and quiet for so long. Their unprompted outbursts can be distracting during the ceremony but on the other hand, it’s often comical and breaks the serious atmosphere.

The Wedding Veil

Watch out for that veil. Kids absolutely love the bride’s veil and don’t understand this a attached to the brides head! Need I say more.

Page Boys and Flower Girls

Explaining the importance of their role can really make them feel included and excited to be a special part of your wedding day.

Wedding Photography

Children won’t stay clean and tidy for too long, so it’s best to get the formal photos early .

Children’s Entertainment

Providing entertainment will allow parents to relax with a glass of wine whilst their little ones are occupied. Colouring books and sticker books are always a winner for table entertainment, bubble and miniature toys tend to keep them busy too.

Natural Wedding Photos

If they don’t want to participate in photos, don’t force it. documentary wedding photographer, will still manage to capture some lovely photos of them as long as they know they’re a key part of the wedding.

Of course the sweet cart is a huge winner with the kids (and adults)

Lawn Games

Children love to play out. Outdoor entertainment can be popular with the adults as well as the kids at any wedding. Bonus.

You may want to consider something a little different for the children when it come to the wedding breakfast. Kids appreciated simpler food while the adults wait eagerly for the canapes to arrive.

Have Patience

Children don’t understand the importance of a wedding. Try to be understanding of their mischievous behaviour and let someone else take care of them. It’s in their nature to ask questions at every point of the day, dip their fingers in their dessert and run around on a sugar high.

Don’t spend too much money

Remember, everywhere’s a play area to children. They’re likely to seek out other kids and make their own fun, so you don’t need to spend too much on entertainment at your wedding.

Wedding Reception Dancing

You can guarantee children will be the ones to get the dancing started. They’ll be the one to get the adults up on the dance floor too. Consider playing some kid friendly songs for them to enjoy early doors

Child Friendly wedding vs child free wedding

Having children at a wedding adds a lovely atmosphere and keeps families together, but if you opt for a child free wedding, be sure to make this crystal clear to all guests on the wedding invite/information. You don’t want some turning up with their kids and other guests thinking it was only theirs that wasn’t allowed.
