Wedding photography at Leeds civic Hall
Being a North Yorkshire Wedding photographer, I don’t often receive bookings for Leeds weddings, but I’m so happy Suzanne and Tom found me at a wedding fayre and chose me as their Leeds wedding photographer. I actually study photography pretty much next to Leeds Civic Hall and always thought it was a beautiful building. Unfortunately there was lots of fences at the main entrance, so it can’t be seen in all this fully glory here. It really didn’t matter for Suzanne and Tom’s wedding though, because their day was all about the commitment and family! And what a beautiful day it was.
It started with Suzanne and her family for bridal prep (where I’m pretty sure her sisters attempting to get me drunk at 9:30 in the morning) There was a lively vintage bus ride to and from Leeds with all their friendly wedding guests. Their sweet intimate wedding ceremony and super tasty food at Gusto Italian for the wedding reception. And not to forget the funny and heartfelt speeches from Suzanne’s children. Suzanne and Tom’s wedding is a great example that wedding don’t have to be full of expense and DIY weddings can be just as beautiful. Here are my highlights with some Question & answers with the lovely couple.
Tell us about how you met and the proposal
We actually worked for the same company and I’ve always liked Suzanne. After hearing she was divorced, I contacted her during lockdown and we met for coffee. Most expensive coffee ever as we talked that long, that we both got parking fines- £50 each!! I proposed two years later outside Costa where we first met.
Tell us about THE dress.
Budget played a big role, but I’ve always liked the older more classic styles, especially the 1920’s Gatsby look. I found this wedding dress, which had a modern twist with clean lines and the beadwork made it a little different from typical bridal dresses. It reflects my style and body type.
How did you feel in the lead up to the ceremony and as you walked down the aisle/ waited for your bride?
Suzanne: I felt excited and a little nervous. The registrars were like a double act, they were funny and helped the kids and I relax before we entered. I couldn’t wait to see Tom.
Tom: I felt nervous but also excited. I could feel myself well up as the music played and people stood up when Suzanne walked towards me. I couldn’t wait to see her as her sister had already told me she looked stunning. And she did!
What venues did you choose and why?
We contemplated going abroad, but chose Leeds Civic Hall for a more intimate family focused wedding that all the family could attend. We also Chose Gusto Italian in Cookridge as it is our favourite restaurant and amazing food.
Why did you pick your photographer?
Gemma’s portfolio stood out from the crowd. Thought went into the composition of each photograph. She allowed the subject in the picture to shine and captured the best of everyone. Our guests have said they felt relaxed in her presence which made for better and less staged pictures.
What aspect of the day we’re important to you? Was there a wedding theme?
Our families were at the heart of every decision. We wanted everyone to feel relaxed and to have fun. Our theme was intimate family wedding. Our colour palette was light, fresh and soft.
Was there a particular moment or part of the day that really sticks out as a highlight?
Saying our vows and the wedding speeches.
Do you have any advice for couples in the planning stages?
Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Don’t try and do everything yourself. A wedding coordinator really is helpful. And remember to enjoy the process and what the wedding day is really about. Don’t get caught up in the commercial side of weddings.
Anything you’d like to add
Just a huge thank you to everyone who made our day special.
